RV Life: The Not-So-Glamorous Side (Yes, Even Our Rig Breaks!)

When people picture RV living, they usually imagine sunsets over the mountains, cozy nights by the fire, and the freedom to roll wherever the road leads. And don’t get me wrong — those moments are real and they’re some of the best parts of this lifestyle. But here’s the truth that every RVer knows: no matter how new or old your rig is, something will eventually break.
We get it, because we live in our RV full-time. And just like everyone else, we’ve had our fair share of problems. It doesn’t matter if your RV is straight off the lot, or 5, 10, or even 20 years old… they ALL come with issues sooner or later.
Our Latest RV Challenge: The Cracked Gray Tank
Our most recent battle? A cracked gray tank. 💦 What seemed like just a small leak quickly turned into a bigger project. Not only did we have to replace the tank itself, but the insulation underneath had gotten soaked and needed to be replaced too. Definitely not the kind of “weekend project” we had in mind.
Why This Is Normal
It’s easy to get frustrated when something goes wrong. But here’s the thing — every RVer, whether they admit it or not, has been there. Tanks crack, water heaters fail, AC units stop cooling, slides get stuck… it’s all part of the package deal when your home has wheels.
RV Life: The Takeaway
RV life is amazing, but it’s not always glamorous. Sometimes it’s fixing things you never thought you’d learn about. Sometimes it’s sitting in a hardware store parking lot with parts spread across your cart. And sometimes it’s crawling under your rig wondering how this became your life.
But at the end of the day, it’s worth it. Every breakdown teaches us something new. Every repair gives us a story to share. And every mile reminds us why we chose this lifestyle in the first place.
So if you’re going through it — know you’re not alone. We’re right there with you, learning, fixing, and rolling on to the next adventure.
